UL FSRI Fire Safety Academy
It is a part of UL Research Institutes (formerly part of Underwriters Laboratories) and is dedicated to advancing fire science to improve firefighter safety and public safety through research, education, and collaboration. They perform scientific studies on fire behavior, suppression tactics, building materials, ventilation, and more. Their findings help shape firefighting tactics, training programs, and safety protocols, especially in areas like modern fire dynamics and fireground strategies. Their website offers free, evidence-based online training and educational tools for firefighters, departments, and instructors.

Aggressive Command to Prevent the NIOSH 5 is a webinar from trainfirefighters.com taught by Battalion Chief Anthony Kastros. Anthony Kastros is an experienced Battalion Chief from Sacramento Metro FD in California. The webinar is packed with information pertinent to functioning as an Incident Commander or Division Supervisor in our Blue Card-based incident command system. This presentation will be specifically beneficial to those members currently functioning in the roles of or preparing to function in the role of Watch Commander (Incident Commander role). After watching the presentation please complete the attached training verification form to ensure the class is logged into ERS by the Division of Training.

Taking the Nozzle Forward: The Rule of 3 webinar featuring Arron Fields is from the fireengineering series. Aaron works on a busy engine company in Seattle Washington and is the creator and lead instructor of the well-known class "Nozzle Forward". This presentation is applicable to all levels but will be specifically beneficial to those members functioning in the role of or preparing to function in the role of Engine Boss. After watching the presentation please complete the attached training verification form to ensure the class is logged into ERS by the Division of Training.

Winter Training
All officers are required by NFPA 1021 to have some basic level of training on fire investigation Since this is an area we definitely fall short on, we are going to complete a nationally recognized training course on the topic. Set up a free account on CFITrainer.net and complete the course titled "Fire Investigation for Fire Officers". Please submit the certificate to Lt. Bittner upon completion.
AFTER ACTION REVIEW
Use your account for the Fire Hero Learning Network website linked below. Complete the After Action Review program and submit your certificate to the Training Officer. This is the 3rd course of 4 that will earn you the Emergency Services Risk Reduction Program Certificate. Remember to complete a training report in the Aegis System as well.

APRIL-MAY TRAINING
Please create an account for the Fire Hero Learning Network website linked below. Complete the COMMUNICATION AND MENTORING FOR COMPANY OFFICERS program and submit your certificate to the Training Officer. Remember to complete a training report in the Aegis System as well.
Additionally, please complete the WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders program through the Texas A&M Extension Service. You will need to set-up or use your FEMA Student ID for the course. You can retrieve this or create one by following the FEMA SID link below. The TEEX registration site will ask you for this number when you are registering for the WMD course. Please submit this certification as well upon completion and enter a training report. If you already have the AWR160 training just send me your cert. You can also pre-test out of the class. You will see it is not very difficult but this is a certification we all should have.
CURRENT TRAINING TOPIC
January 2021 Training
Due to the continued need for social distancing to limit the potential in-house exposure to COVID-19 and the cold weather, this month's training will be classroom based only. The link provided will take you to an embedded webinar that has been uploaded to Youtube. The presentation, "Aggressive Command to Prevent the NIOSH 5", is approximately 1-hour in duration. We believe this class will be beneficial to all members of the department. Feel free to watch as a shift (as long as COVID-19 protocols are maintained: appropriate distancing, mask-wearing, Etc.) or individually. Upon completion click on the quiz link button and complete the 10 question quiz to get 1.5 hours of ConEd training. We hope everyone enjoys the presentation and gains something of value from participating.
